Artist Accusing Disney Of Stealing Solo: A Star Wars Story Poster Designs

Solo: A Star Wars Story is a movie that has had to deal with more than its share of controversy, following a directors shake-up behind the scenes. However, there's another potential problem on the horizon concerning the movie's posters. Artist Hachim Bahous has accused Disney of stealing his design for Sony Music's Legacy Compilation CD covers and using them for the character posters for Solo. According to Bahous,

I am flattered that the quality of my work is recognized, but it is still pure and simple forgery, I have not been asked for my permission, I wish to be credited and paid for this work I have done for Sony!

The character posters were all released recently alongside the first trailer and each is dedicated to a character in the film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. We see Alden Ehrenreich behind the name Solo, Donald Glover as Lando, Emilia Clarke as Qi'ra, and Joonas Suotamo dressed as Chewbacca. Each image is the name of the character, with an image of the character behind it.

By comparison, check out one of the designs for the CD titled Legacy of Funk created by Hachim Bahous, which bears the strongest direct resemblance to the Solo poster above.

It seems that Solo: A Star Wars Story is just a movie destined for controversy. Fans still aren't sure what sort of movie we're going to get following the removal of the films' original directors in the middle of the shooting schedule.

At this point, Disney has yet to publicly respond to the accusation that they stole the design for these movie posters. It's certainly a serious accusation, though there are numerous possibilities for what happened that don't involve outright theft.

Interesting, while writing this story, the original post on Facebook by Hachim Bahous has either been deleted or moved to a private setting, as it's no longer publicly available. The post compared four different Solo posters and four different CD covers to show the similarities.

This story has been receiving a lot of attention since the original post went up and it's possible that Hachim Bahous has decided that he just didn't like the attention, though, one would assume attention was the point when it was first posted. It's possible that Disney and/or Sony has been in touch with him over the last day or so and the situation has been explained and/or dealt with. If there was some sort of settlement reached, removing the original post may have been a condition of it.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this situation. If it hasn't already reached a resolution then we'll likely hear more of it in the coming days. If it has, it appears that it's being swept under the rug, nothing to see here.

That Scene Where Kylo Ren And Rey Touch Is As Close As We're Gonna Get To A Star Wars Sex Scene

That Scene Where Kylo Ren And Rey Touch Is As Close As We're Gonna Get To A Star Wars Sex Scene

While it was released three months ago, fans have still not stopped reeling from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson's subversive sequel shattered fan expectations, and expanded the galaxy far, far away in challenging ways. More information about Johnson's process in crafting the sequel have been released over the past few weeks, especially as The Last Jedi arrived on demand. The director's commentary has been enlightening, and helps to explain some of the more divisive parts of the movie. Johnson recently discussed Rey and Kylo Ren's connection, revealing that the scene in which they touched hands was about as sexy as the franchise is going to get. He said,

The ultimate expression of that is focusing [the shot] even tighter when there's contact. To me, one of my favorite shots of the movie is those two fingers touching. It's the closest thing we'll get to a sex scene in a Star Wars movie.

It looks like we shouldn't expect for any space sex in Rian Johnson's upcoming Star Wars trilogy. While the franchise has had some epic love stories, it's never really about the physical connection. Indeed, it's this lack of contact that makes Kylo and Rey's big scene so powerful in The Last Jedi.

The bond between the two new Star Wars characters was a fascinating aspect of the latest sequel. It's a type of Force Power that we haven't seen, and it was interesting to watch them match wits and eventually find some common ground. Rey truly wants to bring Kylo back to the Light Side of The Force, while Adam Driver's character attempted to rule the First Order alongside the up and coming Jedi.

Rian Johnson's comments from SXSW (via Business Insider) did seem to ignore the prequel trilogy, which featured quite a few romantic scenes between Padme and Anakin. The future Dark Lord seduces Padme on Naboo, albeit with some awkward dialogue. Who can forget the infamous sand scene from Attack of the Clones?

While way less powerful than Rey and Kylo's scenes, you can't deny that that's arguably closer to a sex scene. It's the secret marriage and physical manifestation of their love that eventually results in the birth of Leia and Luke.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available on Demand now with an Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD release on March 27. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

What Michael B Jordan Thinks About Black Panther's Oscar Chances

What Michael B Jordan Thinks About Black Panther's Oscar Chances

Black Panther made more than $1.3 Billion at the box office. It was given a positive review by 97 percent of critics. Many industry insiders have also already cited its success as a potential watershed moment for Hollywood to start approving more diverse movies and giving them substantially higher budgets. By basically any metric you want to look at, the film has to be viewed as a raging success, and yet, with the Oscars on the horizon, Black Panther stars are starting to get questioned about potential nominations, what they would mean and whether the film needs to perform with Academy Awards voters to truly get to the next level of legitimacy.

Rising star Michael B Jordan is the latest to address the rhino in the room during a recent interview with Essence, and I think his comments are very telling...

The movie has done such a great job, broke through so many glass ceilings, and made such an impact culturally and around the world. If the Academy chooses to recognize that project for all of those reasons that's amazing icing on the cake, but I think what the movie has done so far is truly incredible and a win all its own. I felt so accomplished doing this movie, but it's not up to me to validate the film. So the people who make those decisions, that's something they have to think about and figure out on their own.

Very few people go all-in on their own movie's Oscar chances prior to the nominations. It's considered a little taboo to campaign too overtly (although some like Melissa Leo have famously just gone for it), and I suspect many people worry about what might happen if they try too hard and don't get there. But there's something larger in play with Marvel movies too. All the MCU flicks combined have only been nominated for a total of 10 Oscars, 8 of which have come in the 'Visual Effects' category. None of those nominations have resulted in a win. So, I'm sure I would be squeamish too, but Black Panther isn't just a normal Marvel movie.

Even if you strip away all the buzz around it, the visuals, the costumes, the effects and many of the other below the line details of the film are really, really good. Disney is reportedly planning to push the film really hard, even at the expense of Avengers: Infinity War and even in some of the buzzier categories like Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Even the music categories are very much in play.

I have no idea if any of those more talked about categories will pay off, but whether you think the movie was as good as advertised or not, I think most of us would agree the people who worked on creating the spectacle and the wonder behind Wakanda deserve to be recognized.

So, here's to hoping this quote, in retrospect, comes off like a classy underplay from Michael B Jordan rather than fitting uncertainty for yet another unrecognized Marvel movie.
