First Look At Leonardo DiCaprio In Sixties Orange For Quentin Tarantinos Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

First Look At Leonardo DiCaprio In Sixties Orange For Quentin Tarantinos Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

We're still over a year away from Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but the past two months have seen things really begin to ramp up as more and more names have been added to the already sublime cast. Quentin Tarantino's ninth feature stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as a former Western star and his stunt double struggling to make it in a changing Hollywood in 1969. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has begun filming, and we now have our first look at the two leads looking resplendent in their sixties best. Take a look.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is set during the height of hippy Hollywood, and these two certainly fit right in. Leonardo DiCaprio's Rick Dalton looks every bit the suave and clean cut TV star in his extremely bold sixties yellow shirt, with a color combination not seen in decades outside of The Office's Dwight Schrute. Opposite Rick Dalton is Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth, rocking the Canadian Tuxedo and sunglasses, giving off an effortless cowboy kind of cool. He also looks like the kind of daring risk-taker that you would want from a stunt man in the 1960's, when there was even more danger to such a position. It might sound kind of silly, but seeing these two in character, they just look like they belong in a Tarantino movie.

Quentin Tarantino has stressed that this isn't a Charles Manson movie. Even though Margot Robbie will be playing Sharon Tate, it's about 1969 in Hollywood, and the director is definitely evoking that era with the costumes. I imagine that as we see more from the film, the time period and focus will become more evident. Since this is 1969 at the height of hippydom, I'm guessing there will be plenty of peace signs, headbands and tie-dye in this movie.

We still don't know a ton about this upcoming film, but seeing Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in character together, I get a sense of how different these two characters are, and how they present themselves to the world. I can imagine that as a former TV star, perhaps struggling to find work, Rick Dalton is still trying to maintain a certain image and present himself as a success. On the other hand Cliff Booth comes off as more of a rebellious figure, perhaps even less willing to change along with the rest of Hollywood. That's just speculation, but based on this image alone, there's plenty of excitement and anticipation building for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to arrive in theaters.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and releases in theaters on August 9, 2019. That's a ways off, but fortunately there are plenty of other movies worth seeing in the interim. You can check out the biggest ones coming in 2018 on our release schedule.

Rogue Ones Original Plans For Darth Vader Sound Epic

Rogue Ones Original Plans For Darth Vader Sound Epic

We know that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story went through some fairly significant reshoots which drastically changed how some aspects of the film finally made it on screen. This includes the big final scene with Darth Vader. Now, writer Gary Whitta has revealed how he originally conceived Darth Vader's finale when he was creating Rogue One. According to Whitta...

The version I pitched (but never wrote) had Vader on the Scarif beach single-handedly slaughtering his way through a Rebel blockade at the base of the Imperial tower. The version in the Raddus hallway works much better because it's so contained, feels more horror than action.

In the version of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that we saw, Darth Vader ignites his lightsaber at the end of a darkened hallway on board the Rebel ship. In the enclosed space the Rebels have no choice but to try and fight, but they end up as sitting ducks as the Dark Lord of the Sith tears through them. It seems that Whitta's original concept for the scene, though it never actually made it to the page, was for a similar sort of sequence, but one that took place on the planet's surface, rather than a ship in orbit.

This part of the film has come to be a favorite scene among many of the fans of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It shows Darth Vader more as a force of nature than a person, making it clear why the character is so feared throughout the galaxy. As Gary Whitta says, the scene has a sort of horror movie feel to it because of the contained space. Darth Vader comes across like Michael Myers, an unstoppable machine whose only interest is to kill.

Having said that, seeing Darth Vader work in a more open space would have also been quite interesting. With the more open area, Darth Vader could have potentially shown off more of his power. What sort of methods could he have used to break through a Rebel blockade with an entire beachhead at his disposal? One imagines Rebels being flung off into the sky or large pieces of machinery crashing down around them as Vader lays waste to the entire area.

While it's a known fact that Rogue One received fairly significant reshoots, not a lot of detail is actually known about the original version of the movie. Overall, it does seem that the reshoots were the right decision, as the film is pretty well loved by Star Wars fans, something which is reaffirmed by many of the responses to Gary Whitta's tweet here. What's next for the Star Wars Story spinoff movies is not clear. No additional spinoffs have been officially announced, and some rumors have indicated Lucasfilm is taking a step back following the lukewarm response to Solo. However, other reports have claimed that a film about Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently in pre-production with plans to start shooting early next year.

Zac Efron Is Unsettling As Ted Bundy In The Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile Trailer

Zac Efron Is Unsettling As Ted Bundy In The Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile Trailer

There is a certain surface image that we have of Zac Efron as an actor thanks to his roles in things like High School Musical, Neighbors and Baywatch. That image is about to be blown out of the water, though, because Zac Efrons next role is that of Ted Bundy in the upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile. Check out the actor taking an unsettling turn as the notorious serial killer in the trailer for the film below.

Zac Efron often plays charismatic, funny and charming characters, which makes his role here all the more perfect, because it plays on our preconceived notions about the actor, just as Ted Bundy himself went against what you would expect a serial killer to be. Ted Bundy was all of those things and Zac Efron is bringing that to the role, but, beneath the winning smile there is a hint of something far darker.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile knows all of that, and for a good part of this trailer, it is showing us a loving father and devoted boyfriend, who is charming the media and everyone around him. This is no Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs; surely Bundy could not have done these things.

If you knew nothing about Ted Bundy you might believe that and think he is being framed, but, because you do, the effect is entirely different. You are unsettled because this is Ted Bundy, but also because of what Zac Efron is bringing to the role, a certain look, expression or movement that provides a glimpse at his true nature.

This works especially well because Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile is told through the perspective of his long-time girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins, who ignored the signs, and for years refused to believe that he was guilty. She may have been seeing the good and ignoring the bad and this trailer operates in much the same way.

While it goes without saying that the crimes are heinous and everything the title of the film says and more, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile looks like a really fun movie that isnt nearly as bleak as something like Zodiac. The tone is zippy and Zac Efron looks hugely entertaining in the role. This trailer even has some funny moments, like the very end where Ted Bundy escapes and is running down the street in a robe.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile premieres at the Sundance Film Festival this month but a wide release has not yet been set. Well keep you updated when it stakes its claim on the calendar, and be sure to check out our 2019 Release Schedule for all of the biggest movies heading to theaters this year.
