Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure Was Originally Called Bill And Ted's Time Van

Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure Was Originally Called Bill And Ted's Time Van

It was Keanu Reeves' 54th birthday over the weekend, and in honor of the occasion, screenwriter Ed Solomon, who was part of the writing duo on Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, decided to take fans on a most excellent adventure back in time by sharing a little insight about the origins of that comedy classic. There are a lot of neat little details that changed from the idea's inception to the actual 1989 film, with one of the big differences being the film's original title: Bill and Ted's Time Van.

It may not have been a DeLorean, but in the original idea for the film, Bill and Ted traveled through time in 28-year-old sophomore Rufus' van. Obviously that would have meant a very different Rufus than George Carlin's character in the final movie. Ultimately Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure went the Doctor Who route and opted for phone booth for its time travel transportation, necessitating a different title. The idea of a time van is cool, but the thing about Excellent Adventure is that it really says more about the characters and the journey they go on instead of the vessel that takes them there.

The original title isn't the only thing that Bill and Ted screenwriter Ed Solomon revealed on Twitter. Another big difference was that Adolf Hitler originally filled the role Napoleon plays in Excellent Adventure. But even back then that proved unwise, and Napoleon was drafted instead. The original idea also had Bill and Ted's classmates playing a bigger role, with the jocks getting stranded in ancient Egypt. Bill and Ted also played a more active role in the historical events they visited, like getting Caesar killed. Despite the many differences though, the final film maintains the core spirit of the original idea of two kids who need to pass history going back in time to experience it for themselves.

It's cool to see both how different and similar Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure turned out to be compared to Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson's scribbled notes and outline. This gives us a fun window into what might have been, but considering the popularity of the film and its status as a classic, it's hard to argue that all the changes didn't turn out to be most excellent.

As far as future adventures of the excellent variety are concerned, Bill and Ted 3 is supposedly happening, although there has been some doubt cast about that in recent months. The third film, tentatively titled Bill and Ted Face the Music, may be having issue with financing, but according to Alex Winter, it is still scheduled to begin production in early 2019. So we'll have to wait and see if this Wyld Stallyn reunion tour is happening or not.

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend and we'll keep you apprised of any updates on Bill and Ted 3 and all of the most excellent movie news. To see all of the biggest movies still heading to theaters this year, check out our release schedule.

Avengers: Endgame's Metacritic Score Is Lower Than You'd Think

Avengers: Endgame's Metacritic Score Is Lower Than You'd Think

Part of the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that it consistently churns out blockbusters that are enjoyed by both audiences and critics alike and this weekends Avengers: Endgame looks to be no different. While we wont know what audiences think until it opens tonight, the film currently enjoys a great certified fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that the large majority of critics gave it a positive review. On Metacritic however, Avengers: Endgames score is lower than youd think.

Avengers: Endgame currently has a score of 78 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 47 reviews of the film. That indicates that those 47 reviews of Avengers: Endgame incorporated into the Metascore were generally favorable. However, Generally favorable and a C+ level score are a bit lower than you might expect for this movie. It didnt even attain Metacritics Must-See award designation.

At a glance this certainly seems too low, especially given some of the positively gushing reviews out there. So what gives?

First, it is important to understand how Metacritic comes up with its score. Many people misunderstand what Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer percentage actually represents, but Metacritics Metascore can be even more difficult to interpret. Metacritic curates reviews from only select critics, and not all reviewers opinions about a film are weighted equally. And reviews that dont come with a numerical or letter grade score to translate are assigned one from Metacritic based on the reviewers qualitative opinion of the film.

For Avengers: Endgame, of those 47 reviews, only one is negative, two are mixed and the rest are positive. But not all of those positive reviews were 100 scores so Endgame ended up at a generally favorable 78. To put that into perspective, some movies in the past year or so that scored higher than Endgame and earned the Must-See designation are Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mission: Impossible Fallout and A Quiet Place.

It might not be what youd expect for Avengers: Endgame or what you think it deserves, but the films Metascore is actually pretty high in relation to the rest of its MCU stable mates. In fact, the only MCU movies with higher scores on Metacritic are Iron Man with a 79 and last years Black Panther with an 88. For the most part the MCU films are between 60-75 with Thor: The Dark World taking last place with a 54.

So while Avengers: Endgames Metacritic score is lower than youd think it would be, it is still pretty good. Ultimately, professional reviews and sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes are tools you can use to make informed decisions about what movies are worth your money as a consumer. But something tells me just about everyone decided they would be seeing Avengers: Endgame long ago.

Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters this weekend. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for all our coverage of the film and check out our 2019 Release Schedule to see whats headed your way as we enter the summer movie season.

What Hope Is Struggling With In Ant-Man And The Wasp

By  at February 25, 2022  , , ,  No comments
What Hope Is Struggling With In Ant-Man And The Wasp

While most of us are still reeling from the events of Avengers: Infinity War, there's another Marvel movie in less than two months. Now, the film's director gives us a peek into the head of one of the title characters. Specifically, Hope Van Dyne, who will take her place alongside Ant-Man as the Wasp for the first time in the new film. However, just because she's the "new" hero doesn't mean that she will be anything less than confident in her own abilities, it's her partner that she's worried about. According to Peyton Reed...

Well, the movie is absolutely about Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, and Hope becoming Wasp... and their relationship is a little fractured... I think for Hope particularly, the question is out there: 'Do I need this guy in my life? I'm a fully formed hero in my own right, do I need a partner?' That was really a fun kind of premise to start from.

A sequel that sees a hero saddled with a partner they're not sure about is far from uncommon in film, but usually, it's not the new partner who wants to dump the old guy, it's the other way around. However, while Hope Van Dyne has never been the hero before, it's a role that even in the first film it was clear she'd been training for. She's more ready to be the hero than Scott Lang ever was, which, apparently, leads her to wonder if she really needs him once she becomes the Wasp.

Peyton Reed tells ComicBook.com that the relationship between Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will have slowed down and seen some distance grow from where Ant-Man left them, which is likely part of why Hope isn't so sure about Scott. Her questions extend beyond his ability to be a hero, she's not her she needs him in her life.

From what we've seen in the trailers, Scott Lang will continue to be a bit of a reluctant hero. While he has certainly built up some skills, he's not completely the best at using them, while the trailers have shown us that the Wasp is going to kick all of the ass and take all of the names.

This sounds great, if only because it puts an interesting and fresh twist on what would otherwise be a fairly standard set up for a sequel. We can likely be fairly confident how things will turn out for our two title characters. Ant-Man and the Wasp is unlikely to be that original in its storytelling. Still, watching to see how the relationship resolves itself should be fun if the sequel is as good as the underrated original.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will be your Marvel Cinematic Universe palate cleanser before things get serious again when it arrives on July 6.

Hope van Dyne was born to Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne who were also S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives and were known as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Hope was more connected to her mother and loved playing games with her mostly Hide and Seek (Where Hope would always hide in their cuber).
