What Jeff Goldblum Thought About His Giant Shirtless Jurassic Park Statue

Modern pop culture is a delightful thing, and that idea was encapsulated earlier this summer when a statue of Jeff Goldblum as Jurassic Park's Ian Malcolm was erected in London. The homage to the shirtless pop culture icon blew up the internet when it first showed up, and Goldblum himself caught wind of it pretty quickly. In fact, addressing the overall response to the statue, Goldblum recently opened up and admitted that he loved the whole thing. The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star said:

It was lovely, I liked that whole statue. I don't know what it looked like in the flesh, or in the concrete, I didn't see it. I saw pictures of it.

While Jeff Goldblum never actually got a chance to see the Ian Malcolm statue in person, the Thor: Ragnarok actor still loved the whole thing. Elsewhere in his interview with The Associated Press, he noted that the statue is now going on tour, and he's pretty proud to be at the center of such a weird and fun cultural moment.

For those of you who are not quite as in-tune with Jeff Goldblum's filmography, the statue comes from a classic moment in Jurassic Park when Ian Malcolm is laying on a table while recovering from the T-Rex attack earlier in the film. His position on the table as he sits up to talk to his colleagues has been lampooned, parodied, and honored time and time again by fans of the film, and it continues to stand out as one of the most hilariously awesome moments in a beloved Steve Spielberg epic. Ian Malcolm may not be the main character of Jurassic Park (at least not until The Lost World), but he's the most meme-able.

7 Great Movies Coming To Netflix In July

As we've taken the time to mourn our fallen Netflix brethren, it is now time to celebrate the new kids in town. It not only helps die hard fans of the series ease into this new incarnation, it also allows new folks to join in on the comic madness.

That said, who could resist the lure of the best film from his entire catalog, Happy Gilmore, returning to the streaming platform? Van HelsingLong before the Dark Universe wrecked havoc on Universal's chances of reviving their classic canon of Universal Monsters, Van Helsing was first on the scene of disappointing franchise launches. And yet, the film that was supposed to launch a TV series spin-off isn't as bad as some have made it out to be. If you've avoided this movie because of its past reputation, you owe yourself some monster-hunting fun with Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale. At the very least, it's better than the new Mummy movie we've gotten.
