Someone Dumped A Jason Voorhees Statue Into A Minnesota Lake For Divers To Find
If you're even slightly familiar with the Friday the 13th franchise, then you likely already know that you should never go in the water of Camp Crystal Lake. It's the resting place of behemoth serial killer Jason Voorhees, and a vulnerable spot for you to easily become his prey. It's a creepy prospect in the movies, but it turns out that it's just as scary in real life, which we learned when a Minnesota diver posted footage of a Jason statue at the bottom of a popular diving lake years ago. Since then, it has not aged well, as you'll see in the video below.
You can almost hear Jason's legendary "ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma" in the background of that video, can't you? Reportedly built by YouTuber Curtis Lahr himself, the statue was dumped 120 feet below the surface of the water at the bottom of a lake in Minnesota, and merely left for divers (it's apparently a trendy diving spot) to find. Based on the look of the character, it seems to be an homage to Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, which is the film where Tommy Jarvis manages to trap Jason at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake using chains and an anchor.
The above video showed the statue how it looks now, and clearly time has not been kind to the effigy of Jason over the years. Here's how the statue looked when it was thrown into the water back in 2014.
Of course, these videos of the real-life Jason Voorhees obviously have us wondering whether or not we will see another installment in the Friday the 13th franchise in the near future. There was a franchise reboot planned at one point, but it ultimately wound up getting cancelled. Since then, Blumhouse's Jason Blum has expressed an interest in getting his hands on the series for a full-blown revival, not unlike what's currently happening with David Gordon Green's Halloween. Nothing has happened on that front yet, but we will keep you posted if anything changes.
For now, let's just hope that this real-life version of Jason Voorhees stays at the bottom of the lake.
