Evangeline Lilly Thinks Men Should Stop Complaining About Superhero Suits

Evangeline Lily has earned the distinction of being the first Marvel woman with her character's name in the title of the movie. Now that she's joined the boys' club, she's got something to say to the boys. The actress has heard numerous actors within the Marvel Cinematic Universe complain about how uncomfortable the superhero outfits are, but she apparently did not find this to be true when she donned her costume as The Wasp. Lily thinks the reason may be that men simply aren't used to being uncomfortable for the sake of looking good, which is standard practice for her and other women. According to Lily...

I have been hearing Marvel male superheroes complain about their suits for years. And I got into my suit and I was wearing it, working in it, doing my thing, and I was like, 'Just not that bad.' Do I have the most comfortable suit in the MCU? Or have men not had the life experience of being uncomfortable for the sake of looking good?

Since Evangeline Lily says that it takes three people to get her into her Wasp costume, I'm going to guess that she doesn't magically have the most comfortable costume of any Marvel hero. Therefore, it probably is that the men just aren't used to wearing uncomfortable clothes in order to look good. Everybody in the Marvel Universe has to get in tremendous shape in order to look like the superhero that they play. While the suit can certainly help in some regard, it also has to be quite formfitting, which, considering it usually covers the entire body, can't be entirely comfortable.

Of course, that's not to say that Evangeline Lily thinks her Wasp suit is perfect. While she generally sings its praises to BackstageOL, she does admit there is one issue she has with it. The fact that she can't put the suit on herself means she also can't get it off by herself.

My little gripe is that I need help to get into it. And I'm a very independent person and I've been dressing myself for a few years and so, the idea that it took like three people to get me in and out of the suit and to go to the bathroom, I needed to ask for help, I felt like I was three-years-old again.

In the final analysis, it seems that superhero costumes, while maybe not perfectly comfortable, maybe aren't as bad as other things that half the population wears on a regular basis. Still, as fans, we appreciate the sacrifice so that our movie superheroes look amazing. We'll get to see two of them on the big screen when Ant-Man and the Wasp arrives next week.

IT: Chapter 2 Has Cast The Last Member Of The Losers Club

Fans have eagerly awaited the casting announcements for the adult Losers' Club in IT: Chapter 2, the sequel to last years $700 million global smash-hit. There have been plenty of fan castings in that time -- even from the actual young actors who played the Losers. Some of these have even come true, with Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader signed on to the sequel, with James McAvoy, James Ransone, and Jay Ryan filling out other spots. The only Loser left was Mike Hanlon, but now Adult Mike has been found and fans of Old Spice might find him familiar: Isaiah Mustafa.

Moviegoers may recognize Isaiah Mustafa best from a series of surreal Old Spice commercials, wherein the actor played a mythical (and funny) heartthrob. These commercials were really popular back in the day, and since then, Mustafa has appeared in a variety of television roles. Most recently he's been starring in Freeform's Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, and his casting in IT: Chapter 2 is likely the biggest role of his career. As a reminder, you can check out one of those Old Spice commercials, below.

The casting news was confirmed by Chosen Jacobs, who plays the young Mike Hanlon in IT, on his Instagram page. There aren't a whole lot of other details at the moment, but Isaiah Mustafa will join Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, James Ransone, and Jay Ryan in what's shaping up to be a very solid cast for the horror sequel. The adults will once again have to return to Derry and face their reawakened nightmare, Pennywise, with Bill Skarsgrd reprising his now iconic performance as the demon clown.

All in all, I'd say this is some very good casting for Mike. Mustafa might have a bit more of a reputation for being funnier because of the Old Spice commercials, but I think he has the gravitas (it's all in the voice) to play perhaps the most grounded and relatable of the Losers. In the books, Mike plays a huge role in the portion of the story that takes place in the present. However, some of Mike's stuff was giving to Ben in the movie, which disappointed some fans, so we'll see if Mike has a bigger part to play in the sequel.

So far, IT: Chapter 2 is really shaping up. The creative team has built up a nice looking cast with a mix of big names, strong talent, and spot-on casting. (Bill Hader as Richie is beyond perfect). Andy Muschietti is back as director, in addition to original screenwriter Gary Dauberman. The sequel is scheduled to begin production in July and is set to be released in theaters by Warner Bros. on Sept. 6, 2019.

Why Iron Man Included Its Post-Credits Scene, According To Jon Favreau

Post-credits scenes weren't a new thing in movies when the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched in 2008, but when Iron Man tacked on that extra minute of content, it kicked off a trend that has not only become one of this superhero movie franchise's defining features, it's since been adopted by other blockbuster franchises. As most of you can surely recall, Iron Man's post-credits scene saw Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury visiting Tony Stark at his mansion to talk to him about the Avengers Initiative. It was the first hint at a wider world of superheroes, but as director Jon Favreau admitted, this scene originally only meant to be a fun Easter egg for the hardcore Marvel fans in the audience. Favreau recalled:

That was a bit of a lark. I wanted to include Easter eggs that the fans would appreciate and we thought the idea of a post-credit scene it could be fun. It was something that wasn't really in the script originally. But I thought the idea of Nick Fury being Sam Jackson would be really fun, because when Nick Fury was reimagined in The Ultimates (comic book) they recast him as Sam Jackson, and I thought that that would be a really good nod to the audience.

While Nick Fury has become one of the most recognizable characters in the MCU over the last decade, having Samuel L. Jackson portray the character at the end of Iron Man was definitely a deep cut at the time. I can imagine how casual moviegoers unfamiliar with Marvel Comics, let alone the Ultimate universe, might have been confused about what exactly was going on. Let's also not forget that before Iron Man, Nick Fury's biggest appearance outside the comics was the 1998 TV movie Nick Fury: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I suspect not too many people remembered that movie, not to mention that David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury was modeled after the original comics Fury, not the Ultimate incarnation.

Despite not knowing at the time how important Iron Man's post-credits scene would be come, as Jon Favreau noted later in his conversation with EW, he and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige were careful with how they crafted the interaction. Favreau continued:

We were very careful how we selected the words. 'You're part of a bigger world now, a bigger universe,' and 'the Avengers Initiative,' laid breadcrumbs for what was to come. We had the idea that we would somehow group these characters together, that was part of what would happen, but a lot of things had to go right for that to happen, so we were really just laying out a basic mission statement of purpose, to show our intent, and thinking that the few people who would linger in the theater would be the ones who would appreciate it most.

On the off chance that folks didn't catch Nick Fury introducing himself to Tony Stark, Iron Man 2 brought them up to speed, and from there, Nick Fury served as one of the main connective threads between the MCU's Phase 1 movies. Fury was last seen aiding Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but his whereabouts since then haven't been revealed.

A younger Nick Fury who still has both his eyes will appear in Captain Marvel, which hits theaters on May 8, 2019, and it's rumored that the present day Fury will return for Avengers 4 when it opens on May 3, 2019.
